”Brede?”

"She told me what had happened."

"She asked you not to come, didn't she?"

"Yes. Yor your sake. She was worried about you and I didn’t
know what to do. But I couldn't bear the thought of you waiting."

"I'm glad you couldn't." His hand tightened round hers.

Mr Blake came in carrying a tray. Sadie jumped up to help him.
